- UBC Term 1 (Darmstadt Winter semester): Mid-October - Mid-February
- UBC Term 2 (Darmstadt Summer semester): Mid-April to Mid-June
*Term 1 studies with a departure in December are generally possible upon approval by individual course instructors (early examination or additional remote work to complete courses)

Course availability and restrictions

- A German semester runs 24 weeks – 16 weeks of classes, 4-6 weeks self-study preparation for exams and 3-4 weeks exam period
- Undergraduate students cannot register for graduate courses (exception: Computer Science)
- Social Sciences (Arts) program areas include: history, political science, philosophy, sociology, linguistics and literature, theology and social ethics

Course equivalency Formula
- ECTS credits divided by 2 = UBC credits
Course load Information
- Average course load: 30 ECTS/semester
- Minimum: 18 - 20 ECTS/semester
- Maximum: 30 ECTS/semester
Transfer credit
The transfer credit process takes approximately 16 weeks following each submission deadline. You should allow sufficient time to meet important deadlines that may affect you (e.g. application for graduation, registration in courses that require prerequisites that you took on exchange, entry to a major/honours program, etc.)

Additional note for language of instruction
- Students with A2 level may take German-taught courses (To determine your level, please self-asses using the European Language Portfolio Global Scale)
- 4-week Intensive German language course offered in September and March at 3 levels of difficulty, prior to classes beginning (free of charge)
- Some coursework is available in English
