Who can go?

  • Exchange students can take coursework in most areas of study
  • Graduate students in the Masters of Public Policy and Global Affairs program also eligible to attend
  • MPPGA Students are only eligible for term 1 exchange, however, summer programs may be considered with the approval of the Graduate Director

  • Engineering students (UBCV): select 'National University of Singapore-Engineering'

Course availability and restrictions

  • Minimum semester workload of 12 units (approximately three courses)
  • Maximum 20 units per semester
  • Courses available to exchange students can be found here
  • For more information on modules offered to exchange students, see here
  • Exchange students may have limited or restricted access to some courses - see NUS website (Step 3)
  • Approval of modules is from academic departments and the success of an application depends on many factors, including the fulfillment of pre-requisites, availability and timetabling
  • Please note for CIE students, Architecture modules are not available for exchange students at NUS

Course equivalency Formula

  • 1 NUS course (4 NUS Units) = 3 UBC credits
  • Effective September 2018, Law students will follow the above credit conversion (eg. take 20 NUS credits to receive 15 UBC credits)

Course load Information

  • Students should take between 16 - 20 units per semester

Transfer credit

The transfer credit process takes approximately 16 weeks following each submission deadline. You should allow sufficient time to meet important deadlines that may affect you (e.g. application for graduation, registration in courses that require prerequisites that you took on exchange, entry to a major/honours program, etc.)

Finances and funding

While you’re learning abroad, you remain a UBC student and are eligible for UBC awards, scholarships, and financial assistance.
