- UBC Term 1 (UI Autumn semester): Mid August to Late December
- UBC Term 2 (UI Sring semester): Early January to Mid May
*A mandatory orientation session for all new international students is held at the start of each semester

Course availability and restrictions
- The Faculty of Economics is not open to exchange students
- Courses taught in Icelandic are generally not open to exchange students (except Nordic students and students who can speak, write and understand Icelandic)
- Students who have finished their undergraduate studies can enroll in courses associated with a Graduate Diploma in Small States and European Integration as part of their exchange studies
Course equivalency Formula
- ECTS credits divided by 2 = UBC credits
Course load Information
- 30 ECTS per semester
Transfer credit
The transfer credit process takes approximately 16 weeks following each submission deadline. You should allow sufficient time to meet important deadlines that may affect you (e.g. application for graduation, registration in courses that require prerequisites that you took on exchange, entry to a major/honours program, etc.)

Additional note for language of instruction
- The principal language of instruction is Icelandic, but most faculties offer courses in English as well
- Programmes such as Medieval Studies, Renewable Energy Engineering, International Studies are taught entirely in English
- The Faculty of Icelandic and Comparative Cultural Studies offers a full degree programme in Icelandic for international students
