Course availability and restrictions

  • Students must take at least 60% of their coursework from their home faculty
  • Faculty of Business, please see their website linked here for more information
  • Also note: the maximum course loaded for exchange students in FBE is 30 credits, minimum is 18 credits, and 50% courses have to be enrolled within FBE (i.e. if a student taking 5 courses, 3 must be FBE courses and 2 can be electives, and language course is not counted into course load)
  • Sports Science School recently closed. Please note for Kin and Hkin students, there will not be courses offered in these areas

Course equivalency Formula

  • UHK credits divided by 2 = UBC credits
  • For LLAW3XXX courses, we will transfer credit as follows: 2 HKU credits = 1 UBC credit
  • For LLAW6XXXX courses, we will transfer credit as follows: 3 HKU credits = 1 UBC credit

Course load Information

  • Courses generally carry 6 credits (3 credits for broadening courses)
  • Full load = 30 credits/semester (60 credits/year)
  • Minimum = 24 credits/semester
  • Maximum = 36 credits/semester
  • Maximums and minimums subject to the approval of the Dean/Head of the Department
  • Within each semester's full load of 30 credits, more than half of them must come from one single faculty (ie: you should pick three courses from one faculty while the remaining can be chosen from other faculties)

Transfer credit

The transfer credit process takes approximately 16 weeks following each submission deadline. You should allow sufficient time to meet important deadlines that may affect you (e.g. application for graduation, registration in courses that require prerequisites that you took on exchange, entry to a major/honours program, etc.)

Additional note for language of instruction

  • All courses, except those offered by the Department of Chinese, are taught in English
  • If your first language is not English, you will be required to submit proof of English level as a part of your partner application
