Course availability and restrictions

  • In Arts, Science and Commerce, the undergraduate (Bachelor) degree is a 3 year degree at Canterbury
  • 300 level courses are the most advanced undergraduate courses in these areas, and 400 level courses are graduate courses (exchange students are not elligible to 400 level courses)
  • Note: some professional degrees such as Forestry, Speech and Language Therapy, Social Work and Engineering are 4 year degrees and 400 level courses in these areas are therefore classed as undergraduate courses
  • Exchange students may be permitted to take 400 level courses in these disciplines if they have the necessary pre‐requisites and the approval of the relevant department

Course equivalency Formula

  • Canterbury points divided by 4 = UBC credits

Course load Information

  • A normal workload: 60 points/ semester (or 120 points for one year)
  • Minimum course load: 45 points per semester (90 points per year)
  • Maximum load: 75 points per semester

Transfer credit

The transfer credit process takes approximately 16 weeks following each submission deadline. You should allow sufficient time to meet important deadlines that may affect you (e.g. application for graduation, registration in courses that require prerequisites that you took on exchange, entry to a major/honours program, etc.)

Finances and funding

While you’re learning abroad, you remain a UBC student and are eligible for UBC awards, scholarships, and financial assistance.
