Course availability and restrictions
- At HSG 1 ECTS = 430 hours of course work (in and out of class)
- Courses take place throughout the entire semester (13 weeks) and/or in block seminars
- Class Format: Lectures and group discussions, as well as seminars
- Attendance and active class participation is mandatory
- Course grades are based on participation, oral and written presentations, final examinations (for all students)
- COMM (UBCV) students may also be eligible to take courses in Law, Economics and Social Sciences
Course equivalency Formula
- ECTS credits divided by 2 = UBC credits
Course load Information
- Workload per semester average: 24-30 ECTS credits
- A minimum of 16 ECTS is recommended, however, students should follow the minimum requirements of their home university
Transfer credit
The transfer credit process takes approximately 16 weeks following each submission deadline. You should allow sufficient time to meet important deadlines that may affect you (e.g. application for graduation, registration in courses that require prerequisites that you took on exchange, entry to a major/honours program, etc.)

Additional note for language of instruction
- Courses offered in English in Business Administration, Economics, International Affairs, Social Sciences and Law
- Some coursework is offered in English, primarily at the Graduate level (upper year UBC students may be eligible to take first year Master's level coursework)
- Students must have at least a B1 level to study in German (To determine your level, please self-asses with: European Language Portfolio Global Scale)
