Course availability and restrictions

All CUHK courses (those taught in English) are open to exchange students except for the following restrictions:

  • Faculty of Medicine and Education courses
  • Faculty of Law courses are reserved for Law majors only
  • MBA courses (except for MBA specific exchange agreements)
  • Architectural Design Studio courses (except for architecture specific exchange agreements)
  • Courses with prefix: PHED (except for those with an X after the course number)
  • College General Education courses (except for New Asia/Shaw College students taking General Education courses offered within their own college) i.e. GECC, GEJC, GEMC, GESH, GEUC
  • Student oriented teaching courses, i.e. courses with course number beginning with ‘0’
  • FINA courses under MSc in Finance Programme offered by the Department of Finance
  • MEDN courses offered by the School of Life Sciences
  • Any other courses deemed by the Department to be restricted

Additional Course Selection Information:

  • Business courses at CUHK are extremely competitive. Students are strongly advised to have flexible study plans.
  • Students interested in taking courses with topics related to China, can consider courses offered by the Contemporary China Studies programme which are taught entirely in English and catered for students who wish to enrich their knowledge in China’s cultural past, modern history and contemporary history. More details can be found at the programme website.

Course load Information

  • Minimum: 9 units (3 courses) per term
  • Maximum: 18 units (6 courses) per term
  • Note: Most CUHK courses are 3-unit each

Transfer credit

The transfer credit process takes approximately 16 weeks following each submission deadline. You should allow sufficient time to meet important deadlines that may affect you (e.g. application for graduation, registration in courses that require prerequisites that you took on exchange, entry to a major/honours program, etc.)
