Overview
There are two term-based study options from September to April for Tec de Monterrey students to consider when applying to the UBC-Tec Joint Academic Program: General Study Abroad or Certificates of Specialty.
We consider all Tec de Monterrey students at UBC for the Certificate of Academic Excellence (mención honorífica). To be awarded this certificate, students must take five courses in a semester, achieve a 75% minimum average over four of those courses and have not failed any courses or withdrawn.
- General Study Abroad: Choose from a selection of courses in many areas including Business, Social Sciences, Humanities, Engineering, Food Science, Nutrition and Applied Biology. Take courses related to your degree, and access professors and topics not offered at Tec.
- Certificates of Specialty: Select one of the certificates listed.
You can take courses for one academic term (four months) or one academic year (eight months). Start in either September or January.
Eligibility requirements
- GPA: minimum 83% cumulative
- English language test: TOEFL 90 (IBT); IELTS: 6.5 with no part less than 6.0. For other acceptable tests, see the UBC English language admission page.
- Additional requirements for certificates: You must meet the prerequisites for each certificate. Some certificates might require you to be in your 5th, 6th or 7th semester.
When to apply
Apply in your third semester to study at UBC, in the 4th semester or later; though certain courses have additional requirements.
If you want to apply to the UBC School of Engineering, you must have already completed your 4th semester at Tec prior to arrival.
How to apply
First, meet with your Program Director to determine which program or certificate is right for you. Contact the International Programs office at your campus for advice on requirements and the application process. If you are applying to the Joint Academic Program, you must first be nominated by Tec de Monterrey.
