Course availability and restrictions

The Centre for Modern Languages offers a variety of programs in Spanish Language, History and Culture.

Study Abroad (pay partner university tuition):

  • Offers different options for academic courses based on the student's level of Spanish
  • Intensive Spanish Language Course — for students at all levels of Spanish proficiency
  • Spanish Language and Culture Course (Spanish language classes combined with content classes taught in English) — for students at lower levels of Spanish proficiency
  • Spanish Language and Culture Course (Spanish language classes combined with content classes taught in Spanish) — for students at the intermediate levels of Spanish proficiency
  • Hispanic Studies Course* (Spanish language classes combined with a wide variety of content classes taught Spanish) — for students at the advanced levels of Spanish proficiency
  • *Spring semester students with superior levels of Spanish can combine the Hispanic Studies classes with one or two classes taught at the Schools of the University (Humanities, Economics, Political Science, etc.)
  • All students take a mandatory language level placement test upon arrival in Granada and are placed into the appropriate course based on their results

Course equivalency Formula

Study abroad at CLM:

  • CEH and CELC coursework: 5 courses at 45 hours per course = 15 UBC credits

Transfer credit

The transfer credit process takes approximately 16 weeks following each submission deadline. You should allow sufficient time to meet important deadlines that may affect you (e.g. application for graduation, registration in courses that require prerequisites that you took on exchange, entry to a major/honours program, etc.)

Finances and funding

While you’re learning abroad, you remain a UBC student and are eligible for UBC awards and scholarships.   

  • 15 credits or equivalent full-time program tuition per term, paid to CLM
