Who can go?

  • Exchange students can take coursework in most areas of study
  • Note: Chinese, Hong Kong, and Taiwan citizens studying in any discipline at UBC are not eligible to apply for this partner
  • Due to limited seats available at Tsinghua, for the University-wide exchange program, only single term exchanges are available

When applying to Go Global:

  • Commerce: UBC-V Commerce students must select 'Tsinghua University-COMM' 
  • All other students: Select 'Tsinghua University-Uniwide' 

Academic planning

Term dates

  • UBC Term 1 (Tsinghua Term 1): Late August to Late January
  • UBC Term 2 (Tsinghua Term 2): Late February to Early July

*Students on exchange in term 1 returning to UBC for term 2 should take courses that end in December
*If taking courses that ends in January, a written request to the Tsinghua Academic Affairs Office can be made to take exams at UBC in January. Whether this arrangement is made is up to the discretion of Tsinghua

Course availability and restrictions

  • UBCO Management students cannot take a majority of coursework in Business/Economics. The majority of their studies must be done in elective coursework and they may be able to take one or two courses from Business/Economics.
  • Please note that Computer Science courses are oversubscribed and not readily available for exchange students.

Course equivalency Formula

  • Starting from the 2018/19 academic year, the transfer credit equivalency will be 18 Tsinghua Credits = 15 UBC Credits
  • Tsinghua Summer Chinese Language and Culture Centre (ISLCC) 360 ISKCC hours = 15 UBC Credits

Course load Information

  • It is expected that UBC students take a full course load per semester while on exchange
  • A full course load at Tsinghua is 20 credits per semester
  • Courses are worth 2-4 credits

Transfer credit

The transfer credit process takes approximately 16 weeks following each submission deadline. You should allow sufficient time to meet important deadlines that may affect you (e.g. application for graduation, registration in courses that require prerequisites that you took on exchange, entry to a major/honours program, etc.)

Finances and funding

While you’re learning abroad, you remain a UBC student and are eligible for UBC awards, scholarships, and financial assistance.

  • 15 credits or equivalent full-time program tuition per term, paid to UBC

Financial Planning 

Awards & Scholarships  
All students are automatically considered to receive either the Go Global Award ($1000) or Go Global Scholarship ($1500) for each term that they are abroad.  

Canadian passport holders attending this institution will be automatically considered for CLIC funding.
