Course availability and restrictions
- Students may enroll in regular degree courses or may consider the Berlin Perspectives program:
- A supplementary and interdisciplinary study programme for incoming international students, geared towards students whose proficiency in German may not allow them to follow the German-speaking curriculum exclusively
- Combines seminars in the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences taught in English and German with a mandatory German course at HU's Sprachenzentrum
- A full course load in English for Law is not available
- Most universities in Germany provide a “Schein," which you will receive for each course completed - please be sure to keep it for your records and provide a copy to Go Global upon return from exchange
Course equivalency Formula
- ECTS credits divided by 2 = UBC credits
Transfer credit
The transfer credit process takes approximately 16 weeks following each submission deadline. You should allow sufficient time to meet important deadlines that may affect you (e.g. application for graduation, registration in courses that require prerequisites that you took on exchange, entry to a major/honours program, etc.)

Additional note for language of instruction
- Teaching at Humboldt is generally in German
- Some internationally oriented Master courses are taught in English (please note that there might be different language requirements)
- Students must have German language skills at level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, or a TestDaF certificate with a TDN 3 score in all four parts of the test
- Each student will be able to take one German language course (either intensive before the semester, or elementary German during the semester) as part of their exchange without having to pay the course fee to HU (students will pay UBC tuition for the credits obtained - this is a special system that has been set up only for UBC students)
- Any additional German language courses will be covered by each student, as per the tuition fees at HU
