About the program
Located in the heart of Tokyo, Sophia University Summer Sessions offers students an opportunity to 'study about Japan and explore the country's relation to Asia and the rest of the world'.
Choose from two different program tracks: East Asian Studies or Japanese Language. When applying for this program, please indicate which program track and courses you intend to take.

Who can go?
- All applicants must meet Go Global eligibility requirements
- You must have a cumulative average of 2.8/4.0 (~70%) to participate in this program
There are a limited number of spaces for students who wish to participate via summer exchange (i.e. pay UBC tuition), so applications for this pathway will be assessed on a competitive basis. Students not selected for exchange may still be able to participiate via the study abroad pathway (i.e. pay the partner institution directly).

Course equivalency formula
- Sophia credits X 0.75 = UBC credits
- Sophia Japanese Language credits x 1.5 = UBC credits
Course load information
- East Asian Studies: Take a minimum of 2 courses or maximum 3 courses. Each course is worth 2 Sophia credit
- Japanese Language: You will be placed in a specific language level, worth 3 Sophia credits
