Course availability and restrictions

  • Architecture not open to exchange students
  • Physics & Astronomy departments will only accept year long students
  • Law students attending Glasgow have the option of taking either all first and second year courses OR all third and fourth year courses
  • Students who take a combination of first, second, third, and fourth year coursework may have difficulty obtaining the requisite Glasgow credits to achieve 15 credits - students who find themselves in such a situation should contact their GoGlobal Advisor and the Faculty of Law for advice
  • Engineering - students cannot mix levels of class OR disciplines of Engineering (eg it is not possible to take Civil Engineering classes at the same time as classes in Mechanical, Electrical & Electronic, Biomedical or Aeronautical Engineering)
  • Adam Smith Business School – including Economics, Accounting & Finance and Management – it is not possible to take classes from different levels in any of these subject areas
  • Politics – it is not possible to take classes from different levels at the same time in this subject area
  • Chemistry – it is not possible to take classes from different levels at the same time in this subject area.

Course equivalency Formula

  • Glasgow credits divided by 4 = UBC credits

Course load Information

  • It is required of students to take 120 Glasgow credits (equivalent to 60 ECTS credits) in a full academic year, or 60 Glasgow (equivalent to 30 ECTS credits) credits for one semester

Transfer credit

The transfer credit process takes approximately 16 weeks following each submission deadline. You should allow sufficient time to meet important deadlines that may affect you (e.g. application for graduation, registration in courses that require prerequisites that you took on exchange, entry to a major/honours program, etc.)

While you’re learning abroad, you remain a UBC student and are eligible for UBC awards, scholarships, and financial assistance.
