Who can go?

  • This partner has a minimum cumulative average requirement of 77%
  • Students are only eligible to attend after second year (ie: you must have completed two full-time years of study, preferably at UBC, in order to be eligible)
  • Students from all Faculties may attend UCL but not all Faculties at UCL are available to Exchange students. Please pay careful attention to the Faculties that are available at UCL under Course Information and Restrictions.
  • Students wishing to take Modules in Management must attend Full Year or Term 2 only

  • UBC Term 1 (UCL  Autumn semester): Late September to Late December
  • UBC Term 2 (UCL Spring and Summer semester): Early January to Mid June

*Students arriving in January must stay for the Spring and Summer terms.

Course availability and restrictions

  • Although a preliminary selection is made at the time of application, course enrolment does not take place until arrival at UCL, when students discuss their programme of study with their academic advisor (called the Affiliate Student Tutor)
  • Students are expected to select courses from subject areas in their Major. Please note that almost all of the modules that you take at UCL must be taken from within the admitting department.
  • There is a small number of modules that cannot cater to Fall-only students, however now the majority of modules do, as arrangements can be made for alternative examination times
  • Students may take courses in the following Faculties at UCL:
    • Faculty of Engineering Sciences 
      • Electronic and Electrical Engineering students can only apply for a Term 2 or Full-Year
      • Mechanical Engineering 
      • Biochemical Engineering, Students can only take courses as Full Year or Term 2
      • Chemical Engineering, Students can only take courses as Full Year or Term 2
      • Civil, Environmental & Geomatic Engineering
      • Management courses are offered through the Faculty of Engineering Sciences. Students can only take courses as Full Year or Term 2. 
      • Very limited access to Computer Science (CS)
        • Students wishing to study in CS must have a background in CS, have studied at least 3 CS modules per year, and cannot attend UCL in their final year of studies
        • Students in CS can take at most one non-CS module in each term
        • Students in CS must go to UCL for the Full Year or Term 2 to gain registration in CS courses
        • Students going to UCL for Term 1 only will be unable to register into any CS courses.

  • Normal Courseload: 120 UCL Credits for full year or 60 UCL Credits for one semester

Transfer credit

The transfer credit process takes approximately 16 weeks following each submission deadline. You should allow sufficient time to meet important deadlines that may affect you (e.g. application for graduation, registration in courses that require prerequisites that you took on exchange, entry to a major/honours program, etc.)
