Term dates
- UBC Term 1 (UC Fall quarter/fall semester): September - December
- UBC Term 2: (UC Winter and Spring quarter/Spring semester): January - June
- Most UC campuses operate on the quarter system:
- Fall quarter (September – December)
- Winter quarter (January – March)
- Spring quarter (April – June)
- One full academic year is three quarters
- UC Berkeley (UCB) operates on the semester system:
- Spring semester (January – May)
- Fall semester (August – December)
- One full academic year is two semesters
- UC Merced operates on the semester system:
- Spring semester (January – May)

- Note: Students that attend UC campuses for the FALL Quarter only will receive less than a full UBC semester's worth of credits; if a student takes 12 units at UC they will only receive 8 UBC credits; if a student takes 16 units at UC, they will only receive approximately 10 or 11 UBC credits (exception: Berkeley which is on the Semester System)

Course availability and restrictions
- Ensure that there are at least three campuses at UC with courses that you are interested in. The UC Courses search tool allows students to focus their campus exploration on UC campuses where their major field of study is offered and open to exchange students.
- When selecting courses, ensure that they are available in the semester for which you are applying
- Students wanting to study Computer Science at UC should be Computer Science majors at UBC as CS courses are in high demand at UC.
- The Major Preparation page outlines the academic experience students need for success at UC. The page also provides application requirements and any course access limitations for UC's most popular majors.
Course equivalency Formula
- Quarter units x 2/3 = UBC credits
- Berkeley = same as UBC credits
Transfer credit
The transfer credit process takes approximately 16 weeks following each submission deadline. You should allow sufficient time to meet important deadlines that may affect you (e.g. application for graduation, registration in courses that require prerequisites that you took on exchange, entry to a major/honours program, etc.)
