Course equivalency Formula

QMUL credits divided by 4 = UBC credits

Course load Information

  • At Queen Mary University of London, classes (or ‘modules’) are normally worth 15 credits per semester, though there are some worth 30 credits.
  • You will normally take 60 credits a semester, or a total of 120 credits for a full year.
  • You can choose to underload (take less than four classes) or overload (take more than four classes), but you need written approval from your home university, or be on a part-time programme with us

Transfer credit

The transfer credit process takes approximately 16 weeks following each submission deadline. You should allow sufficient time to meet important deadlines that may affect you (e.g. application for graduation, registration in courses that require prerequisites that you took on exchange, entry to a major/honours program, etc.)

British Universities Transnational Exchange Association (BUTEX)

Each year BUTEX awards a number of £500 scholarships to students studying abroad for a single semester or full academic year. Queen Mary University London is a BUTEX member so incoming study abroad students applying to Leeds can submit a scholarship application.

BUTEX scholarships are awarded based on a calendar year and not an academic year. This means that students who are completing a full year of exchange that takes place across two calendar years will have two opportunities to apply, but each student can only win a BUTEX scholarship once.

Find out more and apply for the BUTEX scholarship.

Queen Mary does not offer funding for their study abroad program. However, there are several external funding opportunities for students considering studying abroad at Queen Mary: https://www.qmul.ac.uk/international/global-opportunities/incoming-students/study-abroad-programme/fees-and-finance/
