Course availability and restrictions

  • Most modules run the full year
  • Undergraduate modules are based on a 'weighting' of 20 credits which equates to a typical 200 hours of study time (including lectures, classes and private study) - each module may be 20, 40 or 60 credits (or any other multiple of 20)

  • Formal written examinations are held the end of each academic year only and start from week three in the Easter term (May/June)
  • When selecting courses, ensure that they are available in the semester for which you are applying

  • Average workload for a full-time student is 120 Durham credits per academic year
  • Normally equates to 6 modules / academic year at 20 credits each

Transfer credit

The transfer credit process takes approximately 16 weeks following each submission deadline. You should allow sufficient time to meet important deadlines that may affect you (e.g. application for graduation, registration in courses that require prerequisites that you took on exchange, entry to a major/honours program, etc.)
